H&R Block Associate Programs

Giving to the community is part of the H&R Block culture. The H & R Block Foundation encourages and recognizes the participation of associates who help improve the communities where they live and work. The programs hosted by the Foundation include: Matching Gifts, The H & R Block Foundation Scholarships, Outstanding Community Service Awards, and Cash for Champions.

Matching Gifts

Associates and board members of H&R Block and The H & R Block Foundation individually give thousands of dollars to support private secondary schools, colleges, and universities. In support of their generosity, the Foundation matches these gifts.

The H & R Block Foundation Scholarships

The H & R Block Foundation awards scholarships to children of eligible associates who clearly demonstrate diligence and commitment to academic excellence. Scholarship applications are available to H&R Block associates from mid-January to April 1 with notification made by late June.

Outstanding Community Service Awards

The most basic expression of a shared desire to improve our community is the commitment of our time and energy. Everyday, H&R Block associates make outstanding contributions to the communities where they live and work. The H & R Block Foundation recognizes associate contributions annually with two special awards: The Henry W. Bloch National Award for Outstanding Community Service and the I.J. Mnookin Award for Outstanding Community Service. Associates are nominated by their peers for their extraordinary volunteer efforts in support of their community and the corporation.

  • The Henry W. Bloch National Award for Outstanding Community Service

This award is named in honor of Henry W. Bloch, co-founder and honorary chairman of H&R Block and chairman of The H & R Block Foundation, who models exceptional corporate and civic leadership in his community.

The H&R Block Foundation recognizes H&R Block associates for their exceptional corporate and volunteer service to improve the quality of life in their home communities. Each year one full-time regular or full-time seasonal associate from each of the H&R Block business units is honored. The winner receives a plaque and a $5,000 grant is made by the Foundation to a nonprofit organization of the recipient’s choice.

Please download The Henry W. Bloch National Award for Outstanding Community Service form to nominate a peer. Choose the appropriate business unit: H&R Block Service, H&R Block Financial Advisors, or RSM McGladrey.

  • I.J. Mnookin Award for Outstanding Community Service

The award is named in honor of I.J. Mnookin, the first president of The H & R Block Foundation, for his dedicated community leadership in Kansas City. Mr. Mnookin championed diverse civic, cultural, and social welfare causes in the Kansas City area throughout his life.

The H & R Block Foundation recognizes an H&R Block associate from the Kansas City World Headquarters location whose excellent volunteer service to local organizations and programs made a noticeable difference in the community. The winner receives a plaque and a $5,000 grant is made by the Foundation to a nonprofit organization of the recipient's choice.

The I.J. Mnookin and Henry W. Bloch National Awards for Outstanding Community Service applications will be made available to H&R Block associates in early spring with presentation of awards being made by the end of each year.

Cash for Champions

The H&R Block Foundation recognizes teamwork and group efforts and leverages associates’ volunteerism with cash. When an eligible associate volunteers a specific number of hours to a nonprofit organization within a 12-month period, the Foundation matches that commitment with a gift to the organization.
